How Year 2 Became Podcasters: Learning to Stay Safe Online with Jam Coding

4th November 2026

At Annemount, we believe good digital habits start early. Last term, our Year 2 pupils teamed up with Jam Coding, which runs computing workshops for children, to learn how to stay safe online. Then they went one step further and made a podcast to teach everyone else.

Learning with Jam Coding

Working with Jam Coding, the children explored what makes the internet fun and what can make it tricky. They talked through real situations: what to do if a website looks strange, why someone online might not be who they say they are, and why passwords should stay secret.

From lesson to podcast

The pupils then turned what they had learned into Safe & Sound Online, seven short episodes that each cover one simple rule. The children recorded every episode in their own voices, with a catchy phrase to help each message stick. Making the podcast also gave them the chance to practise speaking clearly and confidently, work as a team and explain ideas to others.

The seven lessons

  1. Grown-Up Guides: ask a grown-up before going online. Ask first, stay safe!
  2. Screen Break Squad: “Screens are fun, but our bodies need a break too.” Play, pause, and take a break!
  3. Kindness Crew: “The internet is for everyone, so we should always be kind.”
  4. Stranger Safe: if a stranger messages you, stop the conversation and TAG: Tell A Grown-up!
  5. Trusted Voices: “Telling someone is a brave thing to do, not a silly one.”
  6. Privacy Pals: “Your personal information is like a special treasure.” Keep it private, keep it safe!
  7. Password Protectors: “A password is like a key that keeps you safe online.” Keep it secret, keep it safe!

Listen together at home

We’re sharing an episode a week on our Instagram and Facebook pages at @annemountschool. Why not listen with your child and ask them to explain each rule in their own words?

A huge well done to our Year 2 podcasters, and thank you to Jam Coding for helping make it happen.
