Spreading Smiles: Annemount’s School Charity for 2026–27

1st November 2026

At Annemount, we believe every day should be filled with fun, curiosity, and plenty of smiles. So when our families came forward with ideas for a charity to support this year, one stood out as a perfect fit: Spread a Smile.
We are delighted to announce that Spread a Smile will be our school charity for the 2026–27 academic year, supported through our PTA fundraising events throughout the year.
Spread a Smile has a special connection to our school community. It was founded in 2013 by two Annemount mums, Josephine Segal and Vanessa Crocker, after they saw the remarkable difference a single magician’s visit made to Josephine’s young nephew while he was being treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
What began around a kitchen table, with a handful of volunteers and a few entertainers visiting one hospital, has grown into the UK’s leading provider of hospital entertainment for children and teenagers. Today, the charity works with NHS hospitals and hospices across the country, and in 2024 both founders were awarded MBEs for their services to seriously ill children and their families.
Spread a Smile sends professional entertainers to visit seriously ill children on hospital wards. Their team includes magicians, musicians, singers, artists, poets, balloon modellers and even therapy dogs. Each visit offers a welcome moment of laughter, play and distraction, for patients and for their brothers, sisters and parents too.
How you can get involved
Our PTA will be raising money for Spread a Smile at events throughout the year, and we will share more about the charity’s work as the year goes on.
We are also encouraging our children to think about how small acts of kindness can brighten someone else’s day. After all, a smile is one of the easiest things in the world to share.
Thank you to every family who suggested a charity for us to support. We cannot wait to see what we can achieve together this year.
