The Earthshot Prize, spearheaded by the Prince of Wales, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Its focus on solutions rather than problems is both inspiring and empowering — and it is exactly that spirit we wanted to bring into Annemount with our very own Mini Earthshot Prize.

We asked our pupils to think creatively about environmental challenges and come up with their own ideas for positive change. The response exceeded all expectations. The entries were truly impressive — demonstrating creativity, thoughtful ideas and a real sense of responsibility that is remarkable to see at such a young age.

The standard of submissions was so high that we simply could not choose a single winner. Instead, we decided that every entry deserved recognition. In Friday’s assembly, each participant received a Headteacher’s Award, along with a special copy of Our Planet, created in partnership with WWF and featuring a foreword by Sir David Attenborough.

We are incredibly proud of our eco-warriors. We will also be taking action: some of the children’s suggestions will be implemented as part of our commitment to listening to and acting upon pupil voice. Watch this space!

At Annemount, we believe that even our youngest pupils have an important voice when it comes to the future of our planet. This is exactly the kind of thinking we want to nurture from nursery onwards.
